Why water damage is unpredictable
Two iPhones with the exact same liquid contact can end up worth very different amounts depending on which components were affected. The board, the screen, the battery and the cameras all corrode at different rates and we can't always tell what's still working without opening the device.
What we look for
We check the Liquid Contact Indicators in the SIM tray, look for tide marks behind the screen, test the speakers and microphones for distortion, and verify the cameras and Face ID. The closer the device is to fully working, the better the offer.
- LCI status in the SIM tray
- Speaker and microphone distortion
- Camera focus and Face ID functionality
- Charging behaviour — moisture warnings
- Display tide marks or pink/green patches
- Battery swelling
Honest expectations
We can't guarantee an offer on a heavily water damaged iPhone — sometimes the parts value just isn't there once corrosion is taken into account. But we will always tell you straight, and you can take the phone home if the offer doesn't suit you.
