How to Find Your Samsung Phone Model Number
Samsung's naming can be confusing — a Galaxy S24 and S24 FE are different phones with different values. Here's how to confirm exactly which Galaxy you have. General guidance only, not a confirmed valuation.

This guide reflects practical device identification, inspection and resale considerations used by our buying team when assessing phones and other devices. It is general guidance, not a confirmed valuation.
Quickest method: Settings → About phone → Model name shows the marketing name (e.g. Galaxy S24 Ultra). Model number (e.g. SM-S928B) confirms the regional SKU.
Method 1 — Settings
- Open Settings → About phone
- Model name = marketing name (Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy A55, etc.)
- Model number = SKU code (starts SM-)
- Status → IMEI information if a buyer asks for the IMEI
Method 2 — Original packaging or device label
The box has a sticker on the side listing the model code (SM-S928B/DS, etc.) and storage. Older Galaxies had the model number printed under the back cover or battery, but most current Samsungs are sealed — use Settings instead.
Galaxy naming explained
- Galaxy S — flagship line. Numbered by year (S22, S23, S24, S25). Variants: standard, Plus, Ultra. Occasional FE (Fan Edition) is a cheaper flagship-adjacent model.
- Galaxy A — mid-range. Three-digit names (A15, A35, A55). Higher number = more recent or higher tier within a year.
- Galaxy Z Fold — book-style foldable, numbered Fold4, Fold5, Fold6, Fold7.
- Galaxy Z Flip — clamshell foldable, numbered Flip4, Flip5, Flip6, Flip7.
- Galaxy Note — discontinued in 2021; S Pen functionality moved to the S Ultra line.
Model code regional suffixes
Samsung model numbers end in a letter that indicates region — for the UK this is usually B (e.g. SM-S928B). A /DS suffix indicates Dual SIM. Region affects warranty and software channel but not normally the resale offer for UK buyers.
Why exact identification matters
Galaxy S24 vs S24 FE, S24+ vs S24 Ultra, Z Flip5 vs Z Flip6 — all visually close but valued very differently. Storage tier matters too on Ultra and Fold lines: see why storage size affects value.

Common questions
What's the difference between Galaxy S24 and S24 FE?
S24 FE (Fan Edition) launched later, with a larger but lower-spec display, plastic frame in some configurations and a different chipset in some regions. Resale values differ significantly.
Where do I find the IMEI on a Samsung?
Settings → About phone → Status information → IMEI, or dial *#06#. You don't need to share the IMEI publicly for a guide price.
Is the model code (SM-) the same as the IMEI?
No. The model code identifies the SKU; the IMEI is unique to the individual device.
